					  Overview

Spider veins, also called Telangiectasia, are small, dilated blood vessels that have a red or bluish colour and appear close to the skin's surface, mostly on the legs and face.

They may exhibit the following features:

                        - they can be short, unconnected lines, each about the thickness of a hair

					    - or they can be connected in a starburst or spider-web pattern

					    - if they occur in a small area, they are almost unnoticeable

					    - if they surface over a larger area, they can become noticeable and quite unattractive

Varicose veins are larger dilated blood vessels, purplish or bluish in colour, that may rise above the skin's surface. Some people experience pain with varicose veins, ranging from a dull throbbing to a burning sensation. The larger the vessel, the more likely it is to cause discomfort.

At the Lions Laser Skin Centre, most spider veins on the face are treated with excellent results using a laser. For spider veins on the legs, we have generally obtained the best results with a non-surgical treatment method called Sclerotherapy, although laser is an option that can be discussed with your dermatologist.
